Need I say more??? Topped a brilliant day (Paintings! Book shopping! Indonesian cuisine!) with Skyfall. And I totally approve of the new Q - actually the moment I first saw him on screen in exactly the same museum we left some 7 hours ago. And
ipomoeaborealis beside me murmured "I can hook you up with the necessary fanfiction as soon as we're out of here." Which she did.
Enjoyed the movie immensely - well, the wrecking of the ancestorial home of the Bonds could have gone a bit faster imo - but still I'm a bit disturbed how much the clocks got turned back to the so-called good old times in the end: Now it isn't Bond taking it up as his personal duty to live all male stereotypes personally (he did seem so much more comfortable with M as Bond girl, didn't he? Or imagine how he would be with Q...), but the whole system got re-adjusted to good old patriarchy: M as "male boss"? Check. Moneypenny willently and happily behind the desk because she isn't cut out for roughing it up outside with the big boys (although I couldn't see a moment where she wasn't up to task)? Check. It's like backlash with pretty cars, mugs and caterpillars. Grrrr.
Otherwise bought my weight in books (I love bookshops where they have essays on the spirituality of fantasy on display without one having to order them) and spent hours at the Tate, admiring beautiful (Millais painting Ariel with a "cape ringed with vegetable bats") and a bit overdone (smouldering Rosetti beauties and deeply mainingful women with snakes staring off vacantly by Burne-Jones) paintings. Social life chez Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood must have been eventful, to say the least...
